Ocella birth control side effects are serious, potentially life-threatening. At the Maher Law Firm, our Texas Ocella lawyers are currently evaluating potential lawsuits on behalf of Ocella users who have suffered serious blood-clot injuries.
Claims are being reviewed nationwide as Ocella birth control has been marketed and sold without adequate warnings about its potentially fatal side effects. Women may be entitled to compensation through and Ocella lawsuit if they have suffered any of the following injuries while taking the birth control pill:
- Heart attack or stroke
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Pulmonary embolism (PE)
- Gallbladder disease
- Sudden death
At the Maher Law Firm, cases are reviewed on a contingency fee basis, which means that no legal fees are charged unless a recovery is obtained. If you or a loved one has suffered serious Ocella side effects, you have probably encountered medical costs as well as lost income, and other serious issues as a result of your injuries. If that’s the case, an experienced Texas Ocella lawyer will evaluate your potential lawsuit and explain your legal options.
Ocella Side Effects
Our product liability attorneys can help you receive compensation by filing an Ocella lawsuit. If a personal injury or wrongful death occurs, the victim (or the victim’s family) has the right to pursue compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, physical and emotional trauma, and other losses. Our Texas Ocella lawyers have obtained millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements on behalf of clients throughout the country. We have handled many lawsuits involving potentially dangerous drugs.
Ocella (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) is a generic version of Yasmin, a once-a-day birth control pill that received FDA approval in 2001. In July of 2008, Barr Laboratories launched Ocella under an agreement that Yasmin’s maker, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, would supply the generic product. A year later, a federal court invalidated Bayer’s patent on Yasmin allowing Barr Pharmaceuticals to manufacture and distribute Ocella without licensing from Bayer.
Unfortunately, soon after Ocella’s release users began reporting the same serious side effects previously reported by those using Yasmin.
Ocella, Yasmin, and Yaz birth control (a lower dose version of the same drug), are unique oral contraceptives because they contain a new type of progestin, drospirenone, which disrupts the body’s ability to regulate the balance between salt and water. This can cause elevated potassium levels (hyperkalemia) which can lead to blood clotting and other serious health complications.
Ocella side effects may include heart attack, stroke, blood clots, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, kidney failure, and more. This is, in part, due to the Drospirenone which causes an increase in potassium levels and may result in clotting.
